73rd NUS MedSoc President - Caitlin Alsandria O'Hara

73rd NUS MedSoc Vice-President - Tay Wei Xuan

Hello Pre-M1s (the term for Year 1 students!) And welcome to the NUS Medical Society’s website!

We are Caitlin and Wei Xuan, the current president and vice president of NUS MedSoc. We’re sure it must be a time of equal parts excitement and uncertainty right now, as you make big choices that will shape the next few years ahead of you. But we are glad that you’ve come to visit us, and we’d love to guide you through our virtual firebase!

The NUS Medical Society is the longest-serving student representative body in all of Singapore! Read more about our legacy and philosophy here. We operate under three broad clusters: Education and Training, Student Life, as well as Outreach and Engagement. Within these clusters, we have a total of 12 directorates which range from Sports and Arts & Culture, to Academic Affairs and Research! Did you know? The annual M1 Orientation Camp, Medicamp, is organised by our Freshman Orientation Programme directorate, and the ~30 community service projects in our school which conduct health education, screening and advocacy programmes are supported by our society’s Community Service directorate! We also host the Clinical Specialty Interest Groups (CSIGs) under our Careers directorate,

Aside from our directorate-related activities, the NUS Medical Society has a firm mission in advocating for students holistically, through frequent meetings with our school faculty and administration. We also are part of the TriMedSoc Alliance, formally established in mid-2021, wherein we collaborate with our fellow medical student leaders to champion the needs of the collective medical student community in Singapore.

NUS MedSoc is as big a part of each NUS medical student’s life as they want it to be! As you explore our school and the possibilities that come with an education in it, remember that every NUS medical student is also a member of NUS MedSoc. The Society is here to champion your interests, to be a platform to meet folks you resonate with, to serve as a springboard for your career, and to be a place where you feel heard and represented. For those who’d want to contribute to the work of NUS MedSoc (trust us, you should!!), we open up Executive Committee elections in August-September each year, and Directorate recruitment in around October each year. Save the dates!

Have fun learning more about us and NUS Medicine! As you navigate the daunting process of applying for university (we’ve been there before too!), do be your sincere self. Honesty with what you want and why you want it will not only be helpful for your application, but for your own clarity as you make these big decisions! We wish you all the best of luck for what lies ahead!
