Arts and Culture Directorate
Aim
Building bridges through the Arts.
The Arts and Culture directorate aims to further enhance the experience of students in their time in YLLSoM via means of Arts. We organize events to showcase and celebrate the art scene in Medicine and all the healthcare faculties in NUS in general, creating platform for students to showcase their talents and explore interest and culture that they never knew they had. Our core function is to enhance student life and spread culture throughout Medicine to enable students to have a meaningful and holistic student life in YLLSoM and enter the working world with fond memories of their student life and the soft skill that the Arts is able to cultivate.
We are the middleman, the matchmaker and the mentors all rolled into one! We help match like-minded students interested in similar culture and arts together to further explore their interests. We help student groups find oppourtunity to showcase their talents in and out of campus grounds. We provide professional mentorship by established memebers of the arts directorate to students who wish to find a new interest. We can be readily contacted via email at arts@medsoc.org.sg

Playhouse
Playhouse is an annual Medicine tradition organised by the NUS Medical Society. With over 50 years of history, it is a heritage handed over from our predecessors, who are now our seniors and teachers in the medical fraternity.
Playhouse seeks to promote: Bonding between our medical students through shared experiences on and off the stage A whole-of-school tradition and spirit Celebration of artistic mastery and flair in Medicine
MedLit Book Club
Medlit Book Club, a community of book lovers keen on discussing short stories, poetry, short stories and other written works, was founded in 2025 as a joint initiative between MedSoc Arts and Culture Directorate and The Medical Humanities Collective.
We’re a space that welcomes readers at any stage of their journey - whether they're exploring a new hobby, or returning to one left behind in the manic pace of life - Medlit Book Club seeks to provide a window beyond medicine through literature for all its members! We often discuss short stories and poetry in our hour-long sessions, which are selected for their ease of reading and captivating narrative thread (feel free to cram these 15 minutes before our sessions, as many participants do!). Of course, the discussion never stops there: if you'd like book recommendations or would just love to rave about your recently finished reads, Medlit is the perfect place for you :)
Medical school demands a lot and in the midst of a journey that never slows down, we hope this hour with us lets you laugh, ponder and be carried away by a story. Do keep a look out for our upcoming sessions on the Medical Humanities Collective IG page and the MedLit Telegram channel.
We hope you’ll join us!! 📚
HeARTbuzz
HeARTbuzz is a platform for our medical students to showcase their talent to their peers. In 2023, HeARTbuzz was incorporated into HeART Week, a week-long series of initiatives and performances held in conjunction with the Welfare department. Below you'll find pictures from years past.
