The functions of the Welfare Directorate are to improve student welfare and build a caring culture in the Society. To achieve this, we plan out exciting activities for students throughout the year, especially during tough examination times when everybody needs the most support. We also provide technical support for Society members and Society-supported projects that are aimed at improving the welfare of the student body, and take charge in maintaining various facilities around NUS Medicine for students’ use. We also work with various partners and external organisations in order to bring more to the Medicine student body and take care of the various concerns of the students. Through Welfare Directorate, we hope that people will also be inspired to build more towards a caring culture in Medicine.
Locker rentals and Storage spaces for projects
We run the NUS locker rentals for students, as well as the storage space for projects such as NHS and PHS. The aim is to help reduce the burden on our students, providing them a safe room to keep their belongings in every day.
Student At risk workshop
Medical Students go through much stress learning the art of helping others, but our own health is sometimes neglected. This workshop helps students learn how to approach those in need, to offer our support when our friends hide their struggles inside.
Especially useful for those who like to travel on their own, we hope to bring this workshop to our students soon, to help better protect our students when they go for conferences and exchanges.
Second-hand Textbook and Clinical Attire sales
Every year we collect old textbooks, scrubs, and white coats from our alumni and seniors. These can be purchased by our students at minimal cost, to help offset the overwhelming expenses of medical education.
Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day
In 2016, we had our very own Free Cone Day in Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine! It was a pleasant break from the lectures and tutorials of the day.
Welfare Dinners and Welfare Packs
When examinations come around, we provide our students with dinners and welfare packs to encourage them along the way. We hope to find other ways of helping our students de-stress as well!
We’re always on the lookout for more events/ideas that can help spread a little love amongst our students. Do join us to help make our community a happier one!
